All aboard the health bus

Young people in South Staffordshire are being encouraged to board the Health Bus to get free advice and support on a range of health issues.

The ‘bus’ is a new mobile health information centre and clinic and has been developed by school nurses from South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) Provider Services and the Children’s Learning Partnership in Stafford.

The Health Bus was launched at The Hollies, Newport Road, Stafford and will be available at the same location on alternate Thursdays from November 26 between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Information, advice and support about a range of topics including healthy eating, physical exercise, giving up smoking, alcohol abuse and sexual health will be available aboard the bus.

Caroline Forrest, Senior School Nurse at South Staffordshire PCT Provider Services, said: “It’s important that we engage young people in important areas of health and well being such as smoking, alcohol and sexual education in a way which is accessible to them.

“The Health Bus gives young people in Stafford, who are unable to access similar services in schools, the opportunity to talk to a nurse or health advisor about a number of topics in a safe and confidential way.

“We hope it becomes a popular and useful source of advice and information for young people.”
