Stepping in dog mess can put a dampener on your walk. However, a group in Warrington are working hard to bring anti-social dog owners to heel.

People and Dogs (P.A.D) in Bewsey & Dallam, Warrington are a group of dog lovers and owners who have come together to support other dog owners in the area. Formed through a partnership with Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT), Warrington Borough Council (WBC), Cheshire Police and local residents the group promotes responsible dog ownership and believe that every dog owner has their dog’s interest at heart.

The aim of the group is to support responsible dog ownership within the Bewsey & Dallam area of Warrington by providing information, advice on dog related issues and supporting events. The group has also come up with a Responsible Dog Owner Pledge, which is a guide to what is expected of a responsible dog owner.

P.A.D. have successfully been rewarded with £1,230 from John Dwyer’s Crime Prevention Fund to help them address anti-social issues such as dog fouling as well as offering dog owners additional support, information and advice.

Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer said, “Allowing dogs to foul footpaths is disgusting and an inconvenience for everyone in the community and also comes with serious health risks. I want to get tough on anti-social behaviour issues like these, and it’s a pleasure to see people taking an active part in addressing the issue.”

GGHT Enforcement Officer, Richard Bennet said: “P.A.D. sees a number of partners and residents coming together to tackle nuisance dogs and their owners in the Bewsey and Dallam area. It is hoped that in the near future the group will expand and the pledge will be rolled out to all areas of Warrington.”

The group meets once a month at Bewsey Community Centre and anybody is welcome to join. The Responsible Dog Owner Pledge is for any responsible dog owner in Bewsey and Dallam. By signing the pledge residents will be making a clear statement of commitment to their dog and how they believe they should behave as its owner.
