International sustainable building systems company, The Litchfield Group, has strengthened its team with the appointment of Paul Herbert as Group Managing Director.

The move coincides with the imminent roll out of the new Sheerframe 8000 window system and plans to extend its Masterdor high performance doors operation across the UK.  The Derbyshire-based family business has been at the cutting edge of new developments in window and door technology since the early 1980s and recently extended its building components operation with the addition of an all-British ICF walling system under the ICF Tech brand.

The Litchfield Group employs 500 people worldwide and has successful manufacturing and marketing operations in the US, Germany and Poland.

Paul Herbert (53) is a chartered mechanical engineer who specialises in change management programmes.  He has over 20 years’ experience in senior management roles as general manager and managing director of a number of multi-site international and SME businesses.  Prior to joining the Litchfield Group he headed the UK operation of the worldwide Smiths Electronic Systems business.  He has also worked in senior roles for Smiths Group PLC, Dowty, JCB and TI Group in the UK.

Says James Litchfield: “Paul’s arrival adds significant strength to our UK senior management team.  With his extensive experience across a range of industries he will provide additional fresh thinking as we embark on a series of new product and customer service initiatives in the coming months.  We are delighted he has agreed to join us.”

Commenting on his new role, Paul says: “Like all manufacturing businesses in the windows sector, The Litchfield Group faces a number of challenges.  There is considerable over-supply, increasing raw material prices and a depressed market for core products.  However, with its world class Sheerframe and Masterdor brands, amongst others, the Group is well placed to take advantage of the many opportunities which exist, around schemes like The Green Deal and the growing consumer awareness of  the importance of high-performance sustainable products.  My focus will be on improving efficiencies within the business and taking the message to customers of the benefits which working with an innovative independent British company bring.  I’m hugely excited at the prospect.”
