Kier offers training opportunities to supply chain

Kier North Tyneside is providing unique training opportunities to members of its supply chain to help share best practice and promote safe and efficient work processes when providing planned and responsive maintenance services to around 16,000 council-owned properties across the region.

In July, 45 companies attended a supply chain event, run by Kier, to learn about opportunities with the company and prospects for employees to gain industry recognised qualifications. 

Courses will include manual handling, first aid and asbestos training specifically created by industry approved bodies such as UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA). Local suppliers will benefit from the locality, low cost and agreed content for courses. Since the launch of the scheme two weeks ago, a total of 43 learners have already booked places.

Kier regional director, Mike Furze, said: “At Kier, we work closely with members of our supply chain to ensure they are fully trained and hold relevant qualifications. We are proud to be able to work with each and every one of our suppliers to help them meet the requirements they need to fulfil their contracts and help us provide the best service to our customers. By supporting local providers, we are also able to further fulfil our commitment to being a socially responsible partner.”
