Palace Fields community garden gets the green light

A community garden in Palace Fields was officially opened by one of Runcorn’s largest social landlords, Riverside.

The garden site, adjacent to the Palace Fields community centre, was previously an unsightly, derelict area.

Thanks to funding and support from Riverside, alongside local partners, the area has been transformed into a space for people to grow plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Riverside divisional director, Neil Townsend, said:  “We already have a keen team of local gardeners working on the raised beds and planting in the greenhouse, but we are looking for more people to get involved.  It’s a great opportunity for older people to work alongside younger residents and take pride in their community together.”

The community garden project forms part of Riverside’s Livetime work, encouraging activities for older people in the community to combat isolation.
