Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT) staff and residents have joined forces to create a welcoming and attractive natural space in their alleyway in Elswick Street, Liverpool.

The five week alley greening project; a partnership project between Liverpool City Council, LHT’s Jigsaw and residents from Shorefields, Liverpool has generated a safe place for residents to enjoy and relax in, while helping to build and strengthen relationships in the neighbourhood.

LHT’s Jigsaw and Councillor Munby helped local residents transform their alleyway into a green and attractive place to meet their neighbours. They firstly cleared the area, before planting potted plants and hanging baskets; creating a colourful space where residents of all ages can now socialise.

Gareth Ellis, neighbourhood housing officer at LHT said: “The alley greening project is a great community initiative.  It has helped to encourage feelings of community spirit and harmony and has inspired other neighbours to join in.”

Sharon Connor, Jigsaw Supervisor said: “We have had a great response from the community and the alleyways have been transformed into green spaces for all residents to enjoy.”

Councillor Munby said: “What Jigsaw has achieved, working with residents is a delight. There’s always been a great view across the river from the Bread Streets. Now we’re creating our own little oasis at the back.”
