Staff go green at Two Rivers

A new green initiative was launched for staff at Two Rivers Housing this week, with the removal of all individual waste paper bins from around their Mitcheldean offices.

The Environmental Action Group, comprising staff and management was formed in 2009. The groups’ mission is to introduce cost effective, energy efficient green initiatives into the office environment, encouraging staff to play their part in saving energy and reducing the volume of waste produced day to day.

The group has already been successful in introducing alternative travel to work days, recycling ink cartridges, postage stamps and batteries as well as replacing bottled drinking water with in-line filters to save on delivery emissions.

Sue Barter, member of the Environmental Action Group said:

“Our group has been very successful in making small but significant changes to save energy, and helping staff to recycle in the office as they do at home.

Our Executive Team have volunteered to lead by example in our latest initiative by giving up their waste paper bins in favour of reusing paper where possible, and using specially provided recycling bins instead.”

The group aims to reduce paper waste and increase the number of items recycled including plastic bottles, food cans and food stuffs.

Garry King, Chief Executive added:

“The research we have been conducting into building greener homes has highlighted that we could be doing more, and thinking about what we are throwing away. These small changes around the office will enable us to save energy, reduce our waste, and ultimately do our bit for the environment.

I’m proud that our staff are taking onboard the message of recycling and championing ideas enabling our organisation to become greener and more energy efficient.”
