NIA urges householders to take physical route to eco-excellenceNIA urges householders to take physical route to eco-excellence

Carbon footprint, eco friendly, and energy efficiency are all terms that are constantly in the news and as such suggestions on how we can help save our planet are always good for a headline.

Often accompanying advice includes behavioural measures only, such as turning down the thermostat, boiling less water in a kettle, or turning the television off stand by; all methods that are only implemented by the user for a limited amount of time whilst fresh in the mind, but these behavioural measures can be short-lived and their effectiveness soon wears off.

There is, however, one energy saving measure that can be taken by the majority of households that will ensure long lasting carbon reduction - the installation of effective insulation such as cavity and solid wall insulation, loft insulation, and draught proofing.

The National Insulation Association (NIA) urges householders to seriously consider having insulation installed without delay, not only as an important method of reducing carbon emissions but also to alleviate the effect of energy price increases.

The physical measure of insulating a house correctly is a one-off exercise which once done can be forgotten with lower fuel bills enjoyed immediately, not to mention the positive effect it will have on ones
carbon footprint.

Some people shy away from insulation not realising how cost-effective such measures are or that these measures will pay for themselves within a few short years with the benefits being enjoyed every year after that.

Once the decision to insulate has been made it is vitally important to find a bonafide installer and this is where the NIA can help.

When choosing an NIA approved installer, householders can be sure they will receive the best advice possible, such as information on the latest grants on offer and an expert opinion on the most appropriate method of insulation suitable for their property.

What’s more, NIA members adhere to a strict Code of Professional Practice which promotes professional conduct and quality customer care.

To find out more householders should visit the informative NIA website, which not only gives lots of advice but has the search facility to point users to their nearest NIA approved member: www.nationalinsulationassociation.org.uk
