Celebrations! Celebrations!

Lancashire’s green gurus were honoured at the It’s Our Planet awards.

The awards, run by Newground, a member of the Together Housing Group, are the only awards ceremony in Lancashire that recognise and reward schools that are working to reduce their environmental impact and teach their pupils to do the same.

Schools from across the county are invited to enter and prove their environmental credentials in a number of categories, with the winners being honoured, held at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Clayton-le-Moors.

Each shortlisted school receives five complementary places for the awards ceremony, which includes a two course, lunch, entertainment and the awards ceremony itself. A framed certificate and then the winner received a trophy, which is made out of recycled materials.

The winner of the Green Primary School, Pilling St John's C or E School, Pilling, Preston, and Green Secondary School, Astley Park School (Special), Chorley, also received a £500 cash prize to work on environmental projects with Newground.

Newground, a member of the Together Housing Group, run Lancashire’s only sustainable education event, which received a record number of entries.

Mick Smith, Newground’s Managing Director, said: “Newground’s ethos is to make our communities a greener and more sustainable place to be.

“These awards encourage schools to put this ethos into their learning, and I must say they have done a fantastic job once again.

“The judges had a very tough time but congratulations to all those who entered.”
