A Day of Discovery – Embracing curriculum change to develop a 21st century classroom is the title of the first in a series of no-cost  whole-day CPD sessions developed to help teachers prepare for the new national curriculum. Delivered by Espresso Education, now a part of Discovery Education, this first-of-its-kind event will cover what’s new in the national curriculum and practical steps teachers can take to ensure success in their implementation. The Day of Discovery will take place on the 30th June 2014 and will be hosted at Discovery Communications’ HQ, Discovery House, 566 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 5YB.

With a strong focus on technology integration, pedagogical experts from Espresso and Discovery Education will identify practical implementation strategies and present exciting ideas on how best to deliver the new curriculum, while developing a 21st century classroom.  Enquiry based learning, what it looks like and why it can work, as well as coding, will also be discussed. Session content will be product-neutral and suitable for implementation in any classroom.

Combining engaging content, thought-provoking dialogue and practical tactics, speakers include Vice-President of Programming at Discovery Networks International Paul Edwards, Founder of Espresso Lewis Bronze MBE, Vice President of Professional Development at Discovery Education Dr. Karen Beerer and educational innovator and developer Max Wainewright.

Commenting on the event, Christine Major, Professional Development Director, Espresso, said, “This event, the first of its kind, will concentrate on the fundamentals of instruction, curriculum implementation and thought leadership. With a strong emphasis on digital media and technology as an enabler, teachers will explore best practices that can be implemented immediately in the classroom. Most importantly, it’s about connecting educators with their most valuable resource – each other.”
