Sommer with teh equipment she purchased for her course with the grant
A Training and Education Grant from Spire Homes has given Sommer Hobson the cutting edge she needed to take up training to become a fully qualified hairdresser.
After hearing about the grants through their Housing Officer soon after they moved home last year, Sommer’s mum applied for one on her behalf.
“Without this equipment I wouldn’t have been able to do my course so I’m really grateful. It’s a really important part of helping me build up my confidence and developing my skills at college and at home. The grant allowed me to buy the essential bits of kit like combs, scissors, round brushes, gloves, hair dye caps, and hair grips, as well as getting my uniform for college and two dolls heads that I can practise on!
“After two years on the course I’ll be a fully qualified hairdresser and I’m learning lots on the job from an apprenticeship I’m doing at a local salon.”
Sommer’s mum, Emma added, “These grants are fantastic. We would have struggled to afford all of the equipment ourselves. I’m really pleased that Spire Homes have helped Sommer get her foot on the career ladder!”
