A budding Leicester pop star will get her singing career off to a festive start with a Christmas single on a music label set up by a University of Leicester graduate.

Singer Izzy Fortuin will release her first ever single “Home Is Where My Heart Is” on Wednesday 11 December on the Mor Music Group label – founded this year by Leicester graduate Bemi Babalola while she was taking a Masters in Business Administration.

The label was set up with funding from the University of Leicester and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Enterprise Inc Project – and aims to promote Leicester’s diverse music scene.

Izzy, who lives in the Narborough Road area of Leicester, has sung for pleasure for many years – but has now found a new platform for her talent thanks to the Mor Music label.

The 22-year-old works as a SEN (special educational needs) teaching assistant at a local infant school as well as for the Menphys charity and volunteers as a Beaver Scout Leader.

She was signed to Mor music Group earlier this year, and “Home Is Where My Heart Is” will be the first professionally-produced track she has put out.

From Wednesday 11 December, the single will be available to download on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play – with a video coming soon.

Izzy said: “Home Is Where My Heart Is is the first single I have brought out – it’s definitely exciting.

“The Mor Music Group label is very supportive. When I first met Bemi, I said I don’t mind where I am in five years as long as I am enjoying making music. Since being on the label, it is the first time a lot of friends and family have heard me sing.”

The release is the latest development for Mor Music Group. The label was set up by 38-year-old Bemi Babalola while she was taking an MBA at the University, with the aim of finding and celebrating local talent.

Bemi is a prolific songwriter with a song catalogue of over 100 songs and experience in the music industry. Prior to starting her MBA, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry.

She was a member of the Songwriters Guild of America while living in New York, and worked closely with music producers and artists in the city.

Bemi said: “Home Is Where My Heart Is is a romantic pop song – and is a great song for a Christmas release. We are going to release it on all the digital sites – iTunes, Amazon and Google Play – and we are hoping to get downloads in the thousands.

“Izzy is a great up-and-coming singer and has quite a unique voice. She was one of the four artists signed to Mor Music Group when we started the label earlier this year.”

Alongside Izzy, the label includes singer/songwriter Matt R, singer Aimee and rapper/guitarist Rakim Bailey.

Izzy’s song was produced by Manike Music – a Leicester-based production duo consisting of siblings Maryann and Michael Tedstone.

The production team’s music has been used by Warner Bros, Pepsi, Universal, BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
