Jobseekers in North Bransholme were able to find out more about employment and training opportunities at a jobs fair held at the community centre on 13th March 2013.

The event was organised by Riverside in partnership with Hull Training and was a great chance for tenants to find out what work-based learning opportunities are available for them.  This included business administration, call centre operations, cleaning services and support, retail and health and social care and catering. The event included cookery demonstrations, hands-on activities, information about funding and the chance to speak with Riverside and Hull training staff, as well as local employers.

As well as being able to find out about apprenticeships and adult education training courses, visitors learned about work experience placements and volunteering opportunities. Potential employers gave demonstrations and there were “have a go” activities and various information stands.

Kerry Glaister, Riverside’s Employment & Training Project Officer, said: “In 2012, we held two jobs fair; the events gave tenants the opportunity to talk to our contractors and apply for vacancies direct. The events were really popular and highlighted how determined people were to find employment and training opportunities.

“In total, we have helped to move 132 people into job opportunities since we started managing the estate. While many of these have been with our contractors, events like these focus on jobs and training outside of the building industry.

“Our kitchen and bathroom contractor Kier attended, as well as our fencing contractor, Thompson Fencing and Westlink Property Services  All the advice provided was free, impartial and confidential and everyone who attended was entered into a draw to win £50 of High Street Vouchers.”
