Saint-Gobain Weber Flooring System for Strood Academy
Products in the extensive weber.floor range by Saint-Gobain Weber, the leadingUK formulator and manufacturer of innovative, high specification materials and system solutions for the construction industry, have been installed at the £29 millionStroodAcademy, a new secondary school inMedway,Kent. The Academy is providing outstanding facilities for pupils from September 2012 offering just 1500 places for which intake has been oversubscribed since 2009. The project includes a new sixth form block and vocational centre, now named the Inspiration Centre.
The design and build contractor, BAM Construction, together with The Progressive Group and Saint-Gobain Weber, devised the flooring system for this new build facility. Over 150 tonnes of weber.floor 4150 fine flow commercial screed has been installed achieving an economical solution for this large application area of over 13,000m². weber.floor 4150 fine flow is a standard drying, cement based screed for levelling and smoothing concrete substrates. It can be applied at thicknesses from 4 – 30mm and is ready for foot traffic in 2 – 4 hours allowing fast and convenient access for other trades. It is ready to receive a final floor covering in 1 – 3 weeks following installation.

The Academy, which replaces the oldTempleBoysSchoolandChapterGirlsSchool, has won the prestigious 2012 Medway Culture Design Award in the New Build sector. Judges said that the £26m project ‘raised the bar in excellence and design’ and was commended for being ‘wholly innovative in its approach to construction, sustainability and renewable energy, with Medway’s first wind turbine in a school.’
