The innovative weber.therm External Wall Insulation (EWI) by Saint-Gobain Weber, theUK market leader in the formulation and manufacture of outstanding construction materials, has been specified for the Hale Village Regeneration project inNorth London.  It is one ofLondon’s largest schemes which will transfer this extensive area of former industrial wasteland into a vibrant urban village beside the River Lea.

HaleVillagewill make provision for a total of 15 buildings in a mixed-use scheme.  Just minutes from Tottenham Hale tube station on the Victoria Line,HaleVillagewill provide almost 1200 student accommodation rooms, 542 affordable accommodation units, 486 private residential units, a 132 bedroom hotel, the possibility of a school and nearly 50,000sq.ft of commercial space.

North Lodge, HaleVillage, has been developed by UNITE Group, the UK’s leading provider of managed student accommodation in central locations or with excellent transport links.  UNITE has worked with main contractor R G Group of West Malling, Kent, to build North Lodge which is adjacent to their existing and popular Emily Bowes Court property.  North Lodge has been built using modular construction techniques linked on-site into shared flats.  The modules were insulated on-site with application of the high performance and award-winning weber.therm XM EWI with a decorative, protective, low maintenance render finish.  The aesthetics provide the building with a modern, colourful and technically superior finish.

Scott Baker of specialist render system applicator Aphex Interiors, Sittingbourne, Kent, is proud to have been selected for this project. “Collectively we worked through the performance attributes of the weber.therm XM EWI system with the client and the contractor to be quite certain we would meet the demanding standards of thermal performance required here as well as match the colour palette of the finished building in-line with the architect’s design.”

He continues:  “The speed with which the modules go together is dramatic and we need to keep pace with the scaffolding contractor as the building races up.  UNITE’s North Lodge property is a seven-storey building where we have installed a metal lath system using composite boarding, 100mm, 150mm and 200mm mineral fibre dual density insulation slabs.  The weber.therm XM system includes meshcloth reinforcement within the weber.rend LAC render coat and the finish used is weber.plast TF150 which includes 1.5mm aggregate.  weber.plast TF is an acrylic based, composite decorative finish which is delivered pre-mixed and ready to apply in wet form.  The two colour finishes really add some style to this modern building. Our programme has run especially well and we have been awarded “Contractor of the Month” status recently.”

At HaleVillagethe exceptionally low u-values have been achieved with the Energy Saving Trust recommend weber.therm XM EWI system which will contribute to reduced energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.  The versatile BBA certificated EWI systems are ideal for use in new build and refurbishment schemes regardless of size, height or exposure which is due to the system’s market-leading fire performance, impact resistance and wind-loading capabilities.

In addition to the weber.therm XM system is the unique weber.therm XP which offers real-time, on-site benefits.  With the use of Saint-Gobain Weber’s unique One-Coat Technology it has quickly been recognised for its contribution to the reduction of programme works.  By avoiding the drying time associated with a traditional two-coat system by as much as 50%, on-site labour and the cost of equipment is greatly reduced.  Products with One-Coat Technology have the advantage of factory controlled production offering consistent quality and performance, are pre-mixed and require only the addition of clean water on site.  Through-coloured renders with One-Coat Technology by Saint-Gobain Weber can be spray or pump applied reducing application times still further and allowing access for other trades even sooner.
