Printwaste Recycling & Shredding supported its client New College Worcester with a community Shred Day that helps both blind and partially-sighted students as well as the wider community.

Local residents and businesses in the city were invited to bring along unwanted confidential documents to the New College’s Whittington Road premises where they were securely shredded and recycled by Printwaste, one of the Midlands largest recycling, security shredding and waste management specialists.

Donations from the day, which raised awareness of the need for safe destruction of sensitive information, will go towards the allotment project at the residential special college for blind and partially-sighted children. The allotments will be an engaging activity for those students who wish to further their interest in horticulture.

Printwaste Managing Director Don Robins said: “In terms of raising awareness of issues surrounding identity theft and the need to ensure that unwanted documents containing personal data are disposed of responsibly, the event worked well.

“Many people who had hoarded their documents commented on what a great opportunity it provided to dispose of them safely as well as for recycling. It was also great to support the college with its environmental project that not only enhances students’ perception of the world, but is one which fits in with what we do,” he added.

Among the residents who praised the service were retired Worcester businessman Peter King, Pete and Carolyn Moody, Sanjiv Prasad and Jan Jarvis who all agreed it was a marvellous and convenient opportunity for a good clear-out of unwanted papers. Jan added: “I had documents building up for months. It’s such a relief to see them securely destroyed – and recycled.”

Anne Priestley, Fund-raising Manager commented: “We’re delighted that Printwaste’s support has helped us with our project as well as raising our profile within the wider community.”

Printwaste Recycling & Shredding provides a broad range of highly-accredited specialist confidential data destruction, waste management and recycling services for businesses locally, regionally and nationally to recognised security and quality standards.
