A GREAT Day Out!

Published by Kat Collins for New Charter Group in Communities and also in Housing

Rain didn’t stop play for Gedling Homes’ annual GREAT Day Out on Saturday 19th July 2014. The Nottinghamshire housing association attracted over 300 tenants and their families to the event, to enjoy fun and games for all ages.

The popular and well attended annual fun day is held in the grounds of Gedling House each summer to encourage social interaction and community cohesion. The event also offers Gedling Homes the opportunity to talk to and consult with their tenants.

Go-karts, a rodeo ‘sheep’, face painting and a photo-booth taxi were just some of the attractions on offer. Gedling Homes’ staff and partner agencies were also on hand - including Age UK, Seven Trent Water and New College Nottingham – to offer advice and support. Gedling Homes staff were available to discuss money saving tips, benefit advice, community regeneration and the new in-house repairs service GH Response. Mayor of Gedling, Jenny Hollingsworth was also in attendance. Crowds were entertained by Netherfield Community Choir and Gedling Homes Poppy Proms Singers.

Despite a few heavy downpours, the rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Shirley from Britannia Court in Netherfield, and member of the Poppy Proms Singers, commented: “I’ve had a lovely day! Everyone was so kind and people made the best of it despite the weather.”

Gedling Homes' Customer Experience Manager, Steve Ward comments: "Our GREAT Day Out is an opportunity for us to communicate and consult with a large number of our tenants, on the key issues affecting them and Gedling Homes.  Alongside the family atmosphere we aim to find out what is important to our tenants and how they would like to see their services delivered to them.  It was great to see it so well attended again this year."
