The drummers on stage at the Festival of Ages
Over 400 people from across North Somerset came together recently to take part in a variety show with a difference at The Playhouse in Weston-super-Mare. The Festival of Ages was the result of a range of innovative projects that have been running for the past six months. The aim was to bring generations together and promote social inclusion.
Performances at the festival included a high energy drumming piece and a song that had been especially composed for the event. There was also a knitting display from a local craft group called the Knitty Noras, a storytelling session, an intergenerational choir and a time capsule project where pen pals of different ages met up for the first time on stage in a 'This is Your Life' style show.
Organised and managed by Alliance Homes, the show involved a number of local organisations and schools. It was a resounding success, with new friendships formed and barriers broken down.
Karen Bennett, Resident Activities Co-ordinator, said: "It was an amazing, emotional and inspiring day and a really great beginning to what we hope to achieve in the future by bringing generations together. We are already looking forward to next year."
