Halton Housing Trusts nominated charity, Widnes and Runcorn Cancer support centre has launched a social media campaign which aims to increase engagement with the local community and increase awareness of the services it offers to local people.
The Widnes and Runcorn Cancer support centre, based in Widnes, provides support and services for people affected by cancer. They have an open door policy with people able to access support from trained volunteers between 10am and 3pm, with extra sessions available by appointment. As well as providing formal support, the centre also offers a relaxed atmosphere and courses and group activities including arts and crafts, complimentary therapies and fitness classes.
The centre is being supported by the Trust in fundraising activities throughout the year and will also support their communications strategy.
Karen Higham, Operations Coordinator for the Widnes and Runcorn Cancer Support Centre says; ‘The group and the centre is a place for people in our local community who have been affected by cancer in some way. It may be that the person themselves has been diagnosed with cancer or it may be that a family member or a friend has been diagnosed, and dealing with that can also be difficult. We are there for people when they need us most but we need people need to know where we are, what we do and how we can help them. That’s why the support from Halton Housing Trust will be so important, they are teaching us new ways to help spread the word about the centre so we can reach, and support, more local people.’
