Social landlord Riverside has raised more than £46,000 for the worthy cause of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The group has recently completed a two-year partnership with the organisation, which aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Staff from Riverside took the fundraising to heart, and carried out a wide range of activities to contribute to the sum raised. They included:
- Marathon running
- Sponsored zip-wire slides
- Cake sales and raffles
- Memory Walks
- Seasonal events, such as the Christmas Jumper campaign
The Alzheimer’s Society was chosen as Riverside’s partner charity following a survey of staff. They felt that their goals closely matched the group’s aims of transforming lives and revitalising neighbourhoods, and touched on a condition that affects not only residents, but the families of Riverside employees.
As well as raising much-needed cash, the partnership also helped raise awareness of the impact dementia has on people’s lives, and the support available to them. A series of well-attended information sessions were run across the group, in addition to Dementia Friends sessions in different locations.
Carol Matthews, Riverside Group Chief Executive, said: “So many lives are touched by dementia, and the Alzheimer’s Society does fantastic work supporting them. Our staff really took the project to heart, and we’re very proud of their commitment and dedication, helping us to raise money that can make a real difference – their generosity was inspiring, and I’d like to thank everyone who supported the partnership.”
The money raised by Riverside will be used by the Society in a variety of ways, supporting sufferers and their families through advice, education, workshops, events and social activities.
Bethan Wood from Alzheimer's Society said: “The support we have received from Riverside employees during the partnership has been fantastic. The money raised will help us to continue to support people living with dementia and their carers. Thank you to everyone who has supported the partnership, you have made a real difference to peoples’ lives.”
