Everton Football Club legend Graeme Sharp has officially opened a £1.4 million football training centre on Merseyside.
It is hoped the new Soccer and Leisure Centre in Prescot will become a breeding ground for future Everton talent. It is home to the Knowsley Junior and Adult football leagues and features seven state of the art third generation pitches, complete with rebound boards, all-round netting and floodlights.
Former Blues striker Sharp unveiled a plaque to commemorate the completion of the facility on Warrington Road.
Mayor of Knowsley Brian O’Hare: “This is a fantastic facility, and one that I hope will help Knowsley continue its long history of producing some of the country’s very best football players. This fantastic facility is helping to make football accessible and fun, while also providing local residents with a convenient and affordable way to keep fit.”
Sharp scored 159 goals for Everton over 426 appearances - a post-war record that is yet to be beaten.
