Riverside in partnership with Burnside Community Centre recently held a free event to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event which was held at the Burnside Community Centre on the Langley estate gave an opportunity for local women to attend sessions delivered by women which included henna painting, arts and crafts, health promotion and saving energy advice.
Sharon Thomas, Riverside’s community projects supervisor said “This year’s International Women’s Day theme was ‘Inspiring Change’ and I felt that this event was a fantastic way of getting women together of all ages, cultures and background to support and inspire each other”.
The Body Shop were on hand to delivery alternative therapies and Riverside’s own energy champions were available to offer advice and assistance.
Joan Aspinall, Burnside Community Centre Manager said “International Women’s Day at the Burnside Centre was a resounding success with over 100 people in attendance. Sharon Thomas from Riverside organised lots of activities for the day, including a harpist and a lunch for the agencies and local women who attended. The Burnside Health and Well Being group also supported women to make their own beautiful flower arrangements and sold jewelry which they had made at the Friday afternoon sessions.”
Women on the day were also able to register for sessions on Loan Shark Awareness and How to Save Energy in the Home. Anyone interested can still register by contacting Sharon Thomas on 0345 111 0000
