A community centre refurbishment event in Banbury has helped national facilities management company, Sanctuary Maintenance, reach the finals for a national housing award.

The Sunshine Centre in Banbury is used by the wider community as a space to come together and carry out different activities. The event involved refurbishing the centres kitchen and redecorating the main hall to allow people to continue using the centre in the future.

The refurbishment was organised as part of Sanctuary Maintenance’s pledge to help the local communities in which their teams work and this was one of the initiatives that lead to the company being shortlisted for the ‘Most Innovative In-house Repairs Contractor’ award at the Housing Innovation Awards 2014.

The awards take place each year to acknowledge and celebrate the new and inventive ways housing associations are working, as well as highlighting original schemes and services.

Sanctuary Maintenance has been shortlisted based on their ability to meet a number of different criteria, from their operational performance to the initiatives that make them stand out in the industry.

These initiatives not only include their work within local communities but also the work experience placements they offer and their excellent operational performance.

Mick McCormack, Planned Works Operations Manager, said: “It is great that we can form these relationships with members of the local community and our operatives are always keen to get involved with projects like the Sunshine Centre.”

Donna Clews, Business Development Manager at Sanctuary Maintenance, said: “Being shortlisted for this award demonstrates the hard work and dedication of all our staff to go above and beyond for the benefit of our customers and the local community.”

The winner will be decided by an independent panel of industry experts, headed up by the Housing Magazine editor, Michelle McKenna, and will be announced on the 6th February 2014 at the Housing Innovation Awards annual gala dinner.
