Local repairs and maintenance firm Mears delivered a bespoke kitchen design workshop with pupils at Whitworth Park School.

The group of 20 year 8 students designed their own kitchens using specified materials and dimensions as well as creating a mini marketing campaign to accompany their design.

Mears’ kitchen supplier Benchmarx Kitchens and Joinery then electronically turned their hand drawn designs into a 3D image of their creation.

Jayne Chapman, Subject Leader for Technology at Whitworth Park School said "The workshop activity was a great experience for the students. They were able to demonstrate their creative skills in a 'real work' scenario. All involved thoroughly enjoyed the task, and were very pleased with the CAD outcomes that brought their designs to life!’

Mears repair and maintain 8,500 homes on behalf of homes and communities business livin and carried out the workshop to encourage young pupils to consider a future career in the repairs and maintenance industry and to illustrate how key skills such as Maths and English are applied in the working world.

Colin Middlemass, Managing Director of Mears Group, said: ‘it is important that students are exposed to career opportunities and can apply their knowledge to real scenarios. We feel a responsibility as a local business to offer these opportunities to young people and this workshop was a huge success.’
