Riverside is region’s most improved gay-friendly employer

Following success as one of the country’s top gay-friendly employers, social landlord Riverside has received more accolades from Stonewall – the campaigners for gay rights.
The national housing provider picked up an award for most improved organisation in the North West, at a Stonewall awards event in Manchester last week, moving 77 places up the chart of best employers this year to 61 in the Workplace Equality Index.
Riverside’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) staff group was also recognised as the Star Performer Network Group. The group picked up the award for its work in liaising with tenants and its reverse mentoring scheme, which helps managers gain a perspective into the issues affecting LGBT colleagues.
Neil Townsend, Riverside’s divisional director and chair of the LGBT staff group said: “The Stonewall index is really important to us, as it recognises our work in supporting staff and raises the importance of equality and diversity in the workplace. We are also thrilled to be recognised for improving services for our gay tenants and supporting them with issues such as homophobia and hate crime, which sadly continues to plague some neighbourhoods.”
