A Runcorn woman has landed a job with social landlord Riverside to help residents become more involved in their neighbourhoods.
Vanesa Shaw, age 35, is Riverside’s new community engagement officer, based at Halton Brook. With a background as a youth worker and careers advisor, Vanessa is focussing on enhancing employment and training opportunities for residents in the Runcorn area and beyond.
Vanessa said: “I’m really enjoying getting out and about to meet lots of community groups – from youngsters involved in Christmas activities to older people at the knit and natter group and the vintage project.”
Vanessa is keen to help people get involved in shaping services to make sure they have a voice in their own communities.
“I will be developing partnerships with agencies to help people improve skills and confidence and their chances of gaining employment. I’m a great believer in volunteering and will be looking for more opportunities for tenants. I started out as a volunteer with a local youth charity and it was a fantastic launch for my career.”
