Orchard Drive, Timecapsule event
Children from the East Marsh Sure Start Children’s Centre have stowed their own bit of history beneath Grimsby’s surface. A time capsule has been buried to mark the completion of the first phase of L&H Homes’ development at Orchard Drive.
To celebrate the regeneration of the area, local children filled the capsule with paintings and photographs of activities from their summer.
Sidney McFarlane MBE, Chairman of L&H Homes, commented: “The regeneration of Orchard Drive has received a truly positive response from the local community and we would like to thank the children and their families of the East Marsh Children’s Centre for their hard work in putting the time capsule together.”
The £5 million development, which received funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (£172,000) together with an additional £1.1million investment via the Recycle Capital Grant Funding (RCGF) stream, will see the first 35 residents move into at the end of October. The 51 property development comprises of a mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes available as affordable rent.
The second phase due to be complete in February 2014 will bring 16 more family homes to the area.
Sidney McFarlane added: “L&H Homes are really proud to deliver decent and affordable homes which in effect provide a cornerstone of family stability. I would like to extend my thanks to Lindum Construction who we have worked with for a number of years, Focus Consultants and North East Lincolnshire Council”.
Other items contained in the time capsule, including a photographic history of the development, were donated by partner organisations, Lindum Construction, who built the scheme, and Employers Agents, Focus Consultants. The capsule itself was donated by the Chartered Institute of Insurers.
Mark Carter, Construction Manager for Lindum Construction, said: “We are delighted to be delivering this scheme for L&H Homes, as part of our continued relationship with the Longhurst Group. Not only are we are proud to be building quality new homes which will benefit families in the local community, but we are also pleased to have been able to employ local people to work on the site itself. While working here we have got to know, and greatly admire, many members of the local community who work hard to provide valuable services and facilities to those living in the area.”
