Isle of Wight social group given ‘Thumbs Up’ to community grant

Members of Wallace Court Social Group are celebrating after Spectrum Housing Group awarded them £300 to continue meeting at Newport’s ‘Thumbs Up Club’.
Spectrum Housing Group’s Medina Community Forum, support local voluntary organisations throughout the Isle of Wight. The community forum are responsible for an annual budget of £15,000, which they award to residents and organisations to help strengthen communities.
Andy Pound, Chairman of Medina Community Forum said, “The Community Forum members were very pleased that we could help the residents at Wallace Court with this grant. Whilst visiting them on the presentation afternoon, it was very clear to us, the weekly meetings the social group holds, mean a great deal to them all”.
The £300 cheque was presented to Wallace Court Social Group at an afternoon tea event at the Thumbs Up Club.
Based at Wallace Court in Newport and managed by Isle Care, the Thumbs Up Club provides a meeting point for Wallace Court Social Group to discuss housing issues and concerns and consider how to improve the quality of life and enjoyment for residents. The group also provide emergency welfare to residents when necessary.
Jon Burgess, Chair of Wallace Court Social Group said of the grant, “The group is very grateful for the funding from Spectrum Housing Group’s Medina Community Forum which allows us to meet in comfortable surroundings both during the day and evenings and hold sessions with our housing officers as well as organise important social functions for our members”.
