Use Your Loaf – The best thing since sliced bread

Spectrum Housing Group is launching an exciting new community engagement project called “Use Your Loaf”. The project will deliver bread making sessions to teach staff and residents alike how simple, cheap and satisfying it is to make your own bread.
Although time-consuming, bread-making is not labour intensive or difficult, and during a session there will be plenty of down-time to chat, drink tea and prepare lunch whilst the bread is proving.
Each three hour course will teach participants how to make a basic loaf, explain some of the science and history of bread making, demonstrate other simple bread recipes and provide a sociable, healthy lunch. Each participant will make a loaf of bread from scratch to take home with them.
“It’s a great chance to meet new people and an opportunity for residents and staff to get together socially,” said Suzie Mundell who is leading the project.
The first session of bread making ran recently in Blandford. Thirteen members of staff from across the group attended the session to learn how to deliver a Use Your Loaf session and discuss the roll out of the project. The day was very successful and all the bread turned out really well.
Use Your Loaf aims to develop new skills, bring communities together, promote healthy, sustainable food production and support the Real Bread Campaign’s “Together We Rise” initiative.
The sessions are open to any Spectrum residents or people living in our priority neighbourhoods.
