Bogus callers: keep them out!

Use your chain to keep thieves out
Cold calling is a favourite tactic of thieves seeking to trick their way into vulnerable people’s homes to steal from them. Rogue traders who are out to rip people off by charging them exorbitant amounts for sub-standard work are also frequent visitors around many local estates.
To raise awareness of such practice, Aire Valley Homes Leeds has been working in partnership with West Yorkshire neighbourhood policing teams, Safer Leeds and local councillors in areas of south east Leeds. Funded by local councillors, the Feel Good Theatre Company is helping to educate residents about bogus callers.
Ten locations have been chosen for the company to act out a number of scenarios which show how easy it is for thieves to enter the home. Their message is loud and clear: ‘Keep them out!’
Those who attend these events receive a crime reduction pack funded by Aire Valley Homes Leeds.
Simon Costigan, Chief Executive Aire Valley Homes Leeds, comments on the project. “We are really keen to be part of such a proactive initiative, working in partnership to combat this type of criminal activity, helping tenants and residents to feel safer in their homes.”
