Dr Liam Fox, MP for North Somerset, dropped in on Alliance Homes to celebrate the launch of their revolutionary new car cleaning service, which they are rolling out across Bristol and North Somerset in partnership with Pluss.
Future Clean is the latest initiative for Alliance Homes and supports people with disabilities and other disadvantages to find employment and training. Recruitment for the first two Future Clean valets, Martyn and Stephen, was done through the Career Transition Partnership (part of the Ministry of Defence), the SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) and through local organisations such as westonworks in Weston-super-Mare. Martyn was injured whilst serving in Afghanistan and Stephen lost his eyesight but following a cornea transplant was able to see again and wanted to return to work.
Dr Liam Fox said, "This is a wonderful opportunity for people who might otherwise have been excluded from the world of work. It means so much to them and their families, and brings great benefits to the wider community. It's a 'win-win' for everyone and I wish Alliance Homes every success."
The eco-friendly car cleaning service uses less than a litre of harvested rainwater to clean cars and all products used are completely biodegradable. Future Clean has attracted a great deal of interest nationally and internationally for its positive impact on the environment and local community. It is a member of the British Parking Association and of Water Savers, a recognition scheme from the International Carwash Association, which shows a commitment to environmentally friendly business practices.
Michael Williams, Business Enterprise Manager at Alliance Homes said, "Sustainability is more than just being 'green'. We believe that to be truly sustainable, our social enterprise not only needs to demonstrate a commitment to the environment but also a dedication to people. Future Clean employees are recruited locally and are put through a rigorous training process that gives them the skills and confidence they need to stay in long-term employment."
