PRESS RELEASE

Thames Valley Housing shortlisted for national award

Thames Valley Housing (TVH) has been shortlisted for a Community Impact Award, a national competition that acknowledges the important community work undertaken by social landlords.

The awards, organised by the National Housing Federation, recognise the vast range of neighbourhood projects - from anti-social behaviour initiatives to support for older people - run by housing associations.

The Young Peacemakers’ Project, co-ordinated by TVH, was shortlisted by a panel of tenant judges for its work with young people in Rushmoor. Run by TVH in conjunction with Rushmoor Borough Council and Aik Saath, the project accessed local youth groups and held sessions on conflict resolution following spates of violence in the area. Rushmoor Borough Council has chosen to further develop the project set up by TVH and has secured over £60k of Armed Forces Community Covenant funding to sustain the work.

TVH’s Chief Executive, Geeta Nanda, said:

“We’re delighted to have been selected for the next stage of the Community Impact Awards. It’s even more special to be chosen by a panel of residents living in social housing – they know first-hand the difference housing associations can make.

“The Young Peacemakers’ Project has been crucial in reducing violence between young people in Rushmoor and I’m really pleased that all of those involved are getting the recognition they deserve through this nomination.”

The national winner of the Community Impact Awards, which are sponsored by Morrison and 24housing magazine, will be announced early next year.
