Bronze medal winners of the skittles tournament, representing Great Britain
Residents of Alliance Homes celebrated the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to the UK by holding a skittles tournament at the end of August at Woodspring Stadium, Weston-super-Mare.
12 teams competed, representing some of the countries who are involved in the Olympics and Paralympics. Italy won the tournament, with Kenya and GB coming second and third respectively. Over 100 older residents joined in on the fun, thoroughly enjoying the opening and closing ceremonies, the victory medal ceremonies and various skittles heats throughout the day. Organic Rhythm, who provide drumming workshops for health and wellbeing, were on hand to keep enthusiasm levels up.
Karen Bennett, Resident Activities Co-ordinator at Alliance Homes, said, "The day was a wonderful success. It took a lot of planning but it was worth it to celebrate the Games! Everyone got into the Olympic spirit, dressing up in fancy dress and enjoying food from around the world. As we weren't able to get to the Olympics, we brought the Olympics to us! We even had a real Olympic torch to add that finishing touch to the event."
