HA touring estates to warn of the perils of dodgy gas fitters
Caldmoreaccord Housing Association is to tour its estates across Walsall to raise awareness about the perils of using unqualified gas fitters.
The tour is being carried out during National Gas Safety Week, and Caldmoreaccord - which manages over 7,200 in the Midlands - will also be promoting its free annual gas safety checks and handing out carbon monoxide detectors.
Carbon monoxide poisoning kills around 50 people in their homes every year in the UK.
Gas Safety Week is being run by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are registered to work safely and legally on gas appliances in the UK. All gas engineers must be on the Register.
Jim Williams, Senior Gas Engineer at Caldmoreaccord Housing Association, said: “Gas safety is an important issue and we want residents to be aware that employing unqualified gas fitters who aren’t Gas Safe registered to carry out work in their home that is unsafe or causes damage is not only dangerous, but can also breach their tenancy agreement if they rent a home with us.
“We provide a free gas service to all residents who rent a home with us and we’ll be encouraging them to ensure they keep appointments and let us into their homes to carry out these vitally important checks.”
