Teenagers from "Jam in the Hood" meet some of the Attley Court residents
Residents at Housing 21’s Attley Court sheltered housing scheme in Wellingborough were joined by 16 young members of “Jam in the Hood” on Tuesday for an evening of games tournaments. The youngsters, aged between 13 and 17, are working with Wellingborough Safer Community Team to find out more about local policing while also helping to change the negative perceptions that some people may have about young people.
The residents taking part, aged between 67 and 92 also donned their hoodies to show their support of the youngsters, who are working towards accreditations in community volunteering.
Martin Sawers, Court Manager atAttley Courtsaid: “We all had a fantastic evening and the residents are hoping that the youngsters will return. It was great to dispel the myth that all who wear hoodies are baddies.
“What made the evening special was how easily the youths made the elderly residents feel so comfortable in their presence. That and the fact that the oldies managed to slaughter the young ones 148 -104 in the Wii challenge!”
