Shoreline has been recognised for its commitment to equality and diversity by receiving a national award for innovation in equality and diversity practice from the Housing Diversity Network (HDN).
North East Lincolnshire’s largest social landlord celebrated World Day for Cultural Diversity and the Network’s 10th anniversary by hosting a diversity day in an innovative way.
Shoreline held activities that celebrated and raised awareness of diversity within their organisation including observation of cultural practices, offline and online awareness campaigns and highlighting of their customer demographic.
In addition, two activities particularly stood out for the HDN Panel. Firstly, an awareness-raising activity involving all employees to increase knowledge of databases which hold tenant communication requirements and the processes and tools in place to help employees meet tenants’ needs.
The second innovative activity was to arrange a disability audit of offices for the day, which involved customers and employees including their new tenant regulator who is a wheelchair user.
The HDN said: “We were particularly impressed because each of Shoreline’s activities had a learning focus, involving all of their employees and some tenants in their activities.
“We also recognised Shoreline’s equality and diversity activities extend well beyond Diversity Day with plans for future activities.”
Shoreline communications advisor Kristina Parker said: “We are delighted to have won this national award which reflects our strong commitment to equality and diversity and the innovative approaches we take to engage with both our employees and customers.”
The HDN is a not for profit organisation which offers specialist training and advice on equality and diversity issues to the housing sector.
