Managing around 10,500 council owned properties across Central Salford, Salix Homes also plays a strong role in housing regeneration and renewal programmes in the area.
Following changes in the way in which council housing is funded, Salix Homes and Salford City Council are working together to find the best forward for the future management and improvement of existing housing stock.
This includes a number of options including the Council keeping ownership of the homes with Salix Homes retaining management under the current arrangements. Other options are that the Council manages the homes directly or that the housing stock is transferred to another housing provider. Whatever the outcome, there is a lot to consider.
Residents will be at the forefront of the decision making process, so it is vital that they are well informed and kept up to date with all the options on the table. Salix Homes have already sent letters to all their residents outlining the key points and, at the same time, they have set up a dedicated team to answer what is expected to be a significant number of phone queries.
As existing users of Knowledge Maps, Salix Homes have worked with First Adapt Ltd to develop a comprehensive FAQ Knowledge Map which residents will be able to access via the organisation’s website. The Knowledge Map will be updated as the Options Appraisal continues, thereby ensuring a completely up to date picture of what is happening in an easy- to-access and visual way.
Whichever route is chosen, residents will have the final say in how the social housing in Salford is maintained and improved.
