The Rowandean Monday Club
Dedicated and active citizens at Two Rivers’ Rowandean supported housing scheme in Cinderford had a double celebration this week.
They presented a cheque for £500 to Help for Heroes community organiser Shirley Wyse after raising the amazing sum at an all action packed fun day which took place on 30th June featuring an exclusive Kung Foo performance.
Never one to miss an opportunity for fun, the club of 13 committed citizens also took the opportunity to celebrate Eileen Byett’s 84th birthday.
Shirley Wyse from Help for Heroes accepted the cheque and was knocked out by the Monday club’s generosity. The charity has only been around for four years and have already raised more than £40million.
“This is an amazing donation by a really caring and committed bunch of people. I salute them for their dedication. These funds will go directly towards helping those who have served their country and suffered for the cause. Thanks to everyone who attended the event on 30th June and played their part. It sounds like everyone had a great time for a very good cause.” Shirley said.
Chris Clarke said the event had been a real winner.
“We never miss out on an opportunity for a good time. It was lovely to be able to help the heroes and so many people chipped in. That’s the power of good cake,” she said.
The Monday club has three members aged 84, one of 80 and two more over the age of 70 – but they live life to the max.
In two weeks’ time they are all off to the seaside.
“We are all off to Western Super Mare. We’ve hired a mini-bus and got our buckets and spades out ready. We always have a laugh,” Chris’ sister Carole laughed.
They all deserve a holiday after their many efforts soldiering about!
