Royston Wardieburn Community Centre protected by Charter security shutters
Edinburgh’s new Royston Wardieburn Community Centre has been specified with sophisticated security shutters from Charter Specialist Security, the UK’s leading manufacturer of built-in roller shutters.
The original Centre, built in 1969, was no longer able to fully meet the needs of its community and its single storey, flat roof design left it vulnerable to vandalism. The new purpose built Centre on the same site as its predecessor is altogether different, featuring a contemporary daylight filled, yet secure design, over two floors.
The glazing in the double height Café elevation provided architect Paul Grierson with a challenge. The Centre is built to Secure by Design standards, featuring toughened glass and requiring security shutters. Due to the height of the glazing, standard security shutters were not an option. The Charter-Integr8 180V vertical rise shutter from Charter proved to be the only solution.
The Charter-Integr8 180V is a unique shutter design that rises vertically from a base-mounted housing hidden at ground level, ensuring effective and unobtrusive security. Ideally suited to protect glazing, the system is operated with stainless steel cables spanning widths of up to 6m.
The shutter systems from Charter are designed to incorporate the shutter mechanics into the actual fabric of the building so that when raised, the shutter is completely concealed from view, but provides effective security in the lowered position.
Charter Specialist Security is an industry leader of built-in roller shutters for the new build and renovation markets, offering clients an innovative range of integrated security solutions.
