On Friday 3rd February 2012, Mark Garnier MP for Wyre Forest and over fifty children from St. Ambrose Catholic Primary School and St. George’s Church of England Primary School attended a Kidderminster park to help plant trees to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The MP and school children were joined by Friends of Baxter Gardens, Wyre Forest District Council’s Parks and Green Spaces team, Wyre Forest Community Housing’s Neighbourhood Wardens and Vestia Community Trust (both part of The Community Housing Group) to create one of hundreds of special Jubilee Woods.
To celebrate the anniversary of the Queen’s historic 2012 Diamond Jubilee, the Woodland Trust is helping millions of people get involved with their local area and plant six million trees across the UK, and would like one million to be planted during February to mark the Queen’s accession to the throne.
The Trust donated 420 trees to Friends of Baxter Gardens, who are working with the Parks and Green Spaces team to create a well-maintained and safe public area that will enhance the quality of life for local people and act as a focus for bringing the community together.
Joe Scully, Parks and Green Spaces Manager, Wyre Forest District Council said: “It’s fantastic that so many people want to get involved to mark this historic occasion. Not only do events like these bring communities together, but they also promote the excellent work done by local groups, such as Friends of Baxter Gardens”.
