The oldest railway passenger station in the world played host to Father Christmas at the weekend.

Santa was joined at Edge Hill Station by representatives from social landlord Riverside, facilities service provider Morrison and arts organisation Metal, who teamed up to oragnise the Victorian themed Christmas event.

Riverside’s Community Engagement Officer Lisa Shearwood-Vingoe said: “Edge Hill Station, which celebrated its 180th anniversary last year, is steeped in history, particularly from the Victorian era. Not only was it the first passenger station in the world but it was also the departure station for George Stephenson's Rocket on its maiden passenger trip in 1830.

“Christmas is a time to reflect on the past so this event was a great opportunity for guests to browse the Edge Hill Archive Project while sipping mulled wine and munching mince pies and listening to carols by Metal’s Platform Youth Theatre.”
