On Wednesday 13 July, Heybridge Youth Club welcomed a coach from Essex County Cricket Club to Plantation Hall Field on Colchester Road. They were given the opportunity to learn to play Street20 Cricket.
Street20 Cricket is a fast moving game, designed to be played in crowded urban environments and using facilities such as five-a-side football pitches, basketball courts and sports halls. It only requires two bats, two sets of plastic stumps, a ball and between four and eight players. Street20 Cricket programmes have been launched with various community groups over the last three years.
Craig Mynard, Heybridge resident, age 14, says; “It’s been really fun learning Street20 Cricket! Everyone got the chance to have a go and we really look forward to playing it again.”
Nicola Syder, Moat’s Community Development Officer says; “We’re always looking for new ways to encourage younger residents to get involved in their community. Street20 Cricket has provided a fun opportunity for local young people not only to learn to play a new game but to also to train as a coach to be able to teach it in future, in their own community.”
Peter Phillips, Essex County Cricket Board Community Coach said "It’s a game that can be played by anyone and everyone, that can be fast, furious and a lot of fun."
