On Tuesday 10 May 2011, Moat staff from the Corporate Development team spent the day planting pots and flower beds around the entrance to Dowling House, a sheltered housing scheme in Belvedere, Kent. The event was organised as part of Moat’s commitment for staff to become more involved in Moat communities and to increase knowledge of all areas of the organisation.
Nine members of staff helped out, planting 200 plants to rejuvenate the two main flower beds flanking the entrance as well as the 70 pots which border the building. Making the most of the sunshine, they provided new homes for a selection of petunias, begonias, snapdragons and marigolds.
The team appealed to local businesses to support their ‘community day’ and Morrisons in Welling responded with the kind donation of some bedding plants, while Tesco, also in Welling, offered a tin of roses and a £15 voucher for a raffle for residents which will take place to raise money for Dowling House.
Moat’s Intelligence Analyst, Liz Laney, organised the day and says; “I’m really grateful to Morrisons and Tesco for their support. The whole point of us spending the day at Dowling House is to support Moat communities and local businesses are vital to our success in doing so.”
Moat’s Scheme Coordinator, Janet Brommett, says; “The team have done a really great job! The pots have all got a new lease of life and the flower beds will be bursting with colour within the next couple of months. It’s lovely to be greeted by such a cheerful looking exterior and something that we don’t always have time to work on ourselves. I think the team had a good time doing our gardening and I hope they’ll visit again as we really appreciate their efforts!”
