A retired couple are to treat themselves to a new bungalow after scooping £1 million on a Lottery scratchcard.

Joan Nicholson, 71, and her husband Malcolm, 69, from Castleford, West Yorkshire, will move from rented accommodation to a new bungalow after winning on the National Lottery's Monopoly Scratchcard.

The couple were shopping in Leeds when Mrs Nicholson bought her winning scratchcard.

She waited until she got home to see if she'd been lucky, and scratched it to reveal she had won the jackpot.

The couple, who are both retired, will be celebrating their 46th wedding anniversary next month.

They have two sons, Gary, 49, and Andrew, 43, and five grandchildren.

Mrs Nicholson said: "We are both still in complete shock at winning such a large amount of money.

"Top of the shopping list will be a new house for us. We've been in rented accommodation for the last four years, so we're going to treat ourselves to a new bungalow.

"We may also get a new car and of course there will be treats for the grandchildren.

"One of our grandchildren was asking if she could have a laptop last week and this win may mean that she gets her wish.

"This fantastic win means that we now have complete financial security and can do anything we want in our retirement years, with the added joy of knowing that our family is provided for."
