A man was being questioned by police today after two men were found dead in a block of flats.
A murder probe was launched after the bodies were discovered at the flats in Waterford Drive, Chaddesden, Derby, Derbyshire Police said.
A spokesman said officers from west Cumbria arrested a 47-year-old man in Whitehaven, Cumbria, at about 6.00 this morning on suspicion of murder. He remained in custody today.
The spokesman said: "Police remain at the scene carrying out house-to-house inquiries and completing forensic examinations."
Police said investigations were at an early stage and further details would be released later today.
Derbyshire Police said the bodies were found in separate flats in the same block, several days apart.
A spokesman said officers went to a flat in Waterford Drive at 7.10pm on Sunday where they found the body of a 66-year-old man, named today as John Matthews.
"Following a post mortem investigation and other inquiries, police are now treating his death as suspicious and have launched a murder investigation," the spokesman said.
After further inquiries this morning, police found the body of another man in a flat in the same block, he said.
"His death is also being treated as suspicious, although it is not yet clear whether the two deaths are connected.
"Police remain at the scene carrying out house-to-house inquiries and completing forensic examinations."
He said the 47-year-old man arrested in Cumbria remained in custody.
