Croydon businesses were quick to welcome the arrival of the new East London Line in Croydon Town Centre. The East London Line makes its first passenger connection to Crystal Palace and West Croydon this Sunday, 23 May, in what is being hailed as an ‘historic development for London’s rail infrastructure’.

Ros Morgan, Director of Croydon Town Centre BID said:

“The opening of the East London Line will add to the fantastic transport connections available here in Croydon Town Centre. We already have high speed rail links connecting the ever busy East Croydon train station to Central London in around 15 minutes, South London’s only tram service and excellent road links, but our transport offer will only get better with the extension of the East London Line now plugging us into the Underground network. I’m looking forward to welcoming new shoppers and businesses into the area to take advantage of our superb facilities via the new tube line.”

David Parham, from Centrale Shopping Centre, said:

“At Centrale we are really excited to see the launch of East London Line and all the new people coming into West Croydon. It’s just a short 3 minute walk from one of the Centrale entrances and we’re looking forward to welcoming all our new customers to the Shopping Centre.”

Andrew Bauer, Centre Director at the Whitgift added:

“The arrival of the East London Line into West Croydon will have the immediate trade benefit of providing a direct link to existing and new retail custom in Crystal Palace and Norwood, but in the longer term the West/East linkage to Canary Wharf will strengthen Croydon as an office location, bringing new employment and greater prosperity to the area, with the Whitgift being only too happy to serve all their employees retail needs.”
