The Environment Agency has chosen leading disability charity, Papworth Trust, as its charity of choice for 2010. This is the second year that Papworth Trust has benefited from money raised through fundraising initiatives.

Mandy Barker, Area Fundraising Manager at Papworth Trust said: “Papworth Trust and the Environment Agency have built a really good relationship over the past two years so I was really pleased to learn that we had been chosen again as their charity of choice. We’ll look forward to the fundraising initiatives that they have in store for 2010!”

During 2009, the Brampton-based office arranged numerous events and initiatives to raise money. An impressive £1400 was raised in their ‘Auction of Promises’, where staff from across the area donated prizes from a gliding experience to cooking lessons. A calendar bringing together themes of the environment and diversity was also launched. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar were donated to Papworth Trust.

As a charity, Papworth Trust relies on the support from individuals, companies and Trusts. Fundraising initiatives organised by the Environment Agency during 2010 will help raise money for projects such as getting hand-cranked bicycles for Papworth Trust Centre clients. These environmentally-friendly bicycles will allow the clients to explore areas of natural beauty which have previously been inaccessible.

Alison Pennycook, the Environment Agency Regional Diversity Advisor commented “We are delighted with our continuation of support for Papworth Trust as our "Charity of Choice” for 2010. We have had some fantastic memories from last year and very much look forward to making some new ones this year.”
