A new centre to handle emergencies in Leicestershire has been opened by the County Council’s leader.
David Parsons visited Leicestershire County Council’s emergency co-ordination centre today (Monday) and met staff who will lead the response to emergencies such as floods, air accidents and
major fires.
The centre – based in an undisclosed location near Leicester – provides a base where staff can oversee and support the County Council’s response to incidents.
Features include:
• an interactive “smart board”, which can display a map of the area affected and the location of key centres;
• communications equipment, including a satellite phone;
• an emergency generator.
David Parsons said: “It’s very reassuring to know that, if a major incident happens in Leicestershire, the County Council has the staff and support necessary to respond
effectively.”
