London South Bank University (LSBU) has become the latest university to join the Thames Gateway London Partnership (TGLP).
TGLP is a public-private partnership which lobbies for Thames Gateway London, and promotes the area.
Eric Sorensen, Chief Executive of TGLP said: “As one of London’s oldest universities, LSBU has a long history of engagement and partnership with local communities and other agencies. We are delighted that the University has decided to become a member of TGLP.
“Together with our other local university members LSBU will unquestionably help us enhance our knowledge and understanding of the key issues facing the London Gateway region. The Universities support our lobbying effort and help us gain the resources needed to meet the development challenges”, he said.
The Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of LSBU, Professor Deian Hopkin, said, “Engaging with the changing economy and the developing communities of London is central to the historic mission of LSBU which was founded for that precise purpose over 115 years ago. We are delighted to be able to contribute to one of the most important developments of our time, the transformation of the Thames Gateway.
“Regeneration requires flourishing public services, such as education, social services and health, as well as a burgeoning economy. Universities such as ours seek to create the right bridges between the public and private sectors and we look forward to working with all our colleagues in the region to accomplish the great ambitions of the Partnership”, he said.
TGLP is supported by all 13 local authorities in the Thames Gateway London area, by six local universities, the local Learning and Skills Council and by the Strategic Health Authority.
