ricky tomlinson is surprise guest at supervisor's celebratory lunch

Site Supervisor John Glover was joined by friends, colleagues and surprise guest TV star Ricky  Tomlinson for a celebratory lunch at Saints’ ground to mark 45 years as an employee of Mayfield Contractors.

Mayfield, in conjunction with St. Helens Council, is currently delivering the town centre Focal Point project and again, in partnership with the Council, recently completed works on the East Lancashire Road.  Focal Point, which is upgrading the town centre, won a national Green Apple Award for the project’s recycling initiatives and its community benefits approach. Former Mayfield employee Ricky made a surprise appearance and caught up with colleagues from years ago.

Apart from a short period immediately after leaving school when he worked on a farm, John, who lives in Haydock, has been a lifelong employee of Mayfield, climbing the ranks from machine driver to foreman, to his current position as site supervisor.

Site Manager Tony Hollywood said:  “This amiable, reliable, extremely popular and softly-spoken gentleman has given outstanding service to the Borough of St Helens over the years, so we decided to invite a number of those who have worked with John on a variety of  projects to a lunch, to celebrate this milestone in his career.”
